Zion National Park is located in Southwest Utah. It’s main feature is Zion Canyon and the scenic road that goes through it. The road is closed to standard traffic. You must ride on the shuttle. I only had a few hours so I road the shuttle, got off at a few stops, and hiked the first part of The Narrows Trail.
The Zion-Mount Carmal Highway is about 10 miles long and is open to traffic. It is very scenic drive with many switchbacks. It travels trough 2 tunnels. Both of which were carved out in the 1930s. The first is over a mile long.
There are many hiking trails throughout the park that take you to better destinations than what you have access to immediately off the scenic roads. Unfortunately, I just didn’t have time to take any of them. The hike to Angels Landing is probably the most popular of the longer trails.
The town of Springdale is just outside the park and is where you have to park and shuttle in if you get there any later than probably 10am. A couple of the hotels there actually had vacancy. Again, plenty of places to stay, shop, and eat just outside the park.
There are nine shuttle stops along the main road.
Court of the Patriarchs.
The Virgin River cuts through the canyon. You probably cross this river a dozen times between here and Nevada.
