Back at the hotel. Got to the park early tonight and took in all of batting practice. I actually learned a lot. It is completely different here. Balls do not fly out as readily here as they do at other places. I mentioned some people having ball retrievers in my review. These people are full blown professionals at this. You might even call some of them crazy. They lay claim to their territory, and if a ball rolls to the wall in their area, it's supposedly theirs. There was a new guy who had just moved to the area there tonight who had his own setup and was going wherever the balls went...seems logical...but they were all over him for invading others' territories. I say if you can get their, it's yours, but I'm not going to argue with anyone here. One guy there claims to have gotten 93 homerun balls over the years, 5 belonging to Barry Bonds. I almost got my hands on one tonight--a BP ball, not a real HR ball. I ended up with a bruised right wrist and kind of tweaked the left ankle. The ball had bounced out of someones glove and onto the ground. My fingertip might have touched it but that was it. Tomorrow, I'm bringing my glove.
I had lunch somewhere along the Wharf. Chowder in a bread bowl. It was good! I ate at the bar. The guy who took care of me was probably in his mid-70s or early-80s. He said he needed a new doctor because the guy he was going to was his age and he thinks he stopped learning 50 years ago. He said all he does is go in there, say "E", and pay 45 bucks. He said, "Thank goodness he didn't make me say 'E' twice, or he'd have charged me 90." I offered him telemedicine and wished him luck.
Not sure what to do tomorrow. I might eat somewhere in Chinatown. But, there is this BBQ place just down from my hotel. I don't think of CA as the place to go for BBQ, but it smells good every single time I walk by it. I might go Wednesday night. I can't decide. I'm thinking of just going into SF late in the morning, going and eating, and then taking the walk from the Wharf back downtown along the Embarcadero...it's too nice not to. I feel like I need to walk up Lombard Street, too, as I've never done that. I've seen it from the Cable Car, but that's it. I did get on a Street Car today. I didn't know they could squeeze that many people in one of those...I bet their were 75 people in that thing. It would stop, and just when you thought no one else could get on, 10 people would get sucked aboard somehow.
Cards lost. Braves lost. Brewers idle. Pujols is at .298, which is unbelievable considering where he was earlier in the season. Every year in his first 10 years he has hit at least .300 with 30 HRs and 100 RBIs. No one in history did it more than their first 7 years until he did. He needs 8 more RBIs this year to get to 100, and if he keeps hitting like he is, he should get that and get to .300. He's well above the 30 HR mark. If you simply Google the world "Albert", he is the sixth link to pop up. That's crazy. Just "Albert". Look at McFadden! Hogs play 'Bama at 2:30 on the 24th...it's so tempting to try to "swing by" on my way home!
