Busy day. Stayed at a family friend's place out in Maryland last night. We went to the Orioles game today. The game was good. The traffic was a nightmare. Baltimore is hosting a Grand Prix tomorrow and through the weekend, so downtown Baltimore streets were essentially being shutdown. I've never seen anything like it. We didn't know that going into town. When walking to the stadium, we realized something else was going on. After the game, we went to the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum. Strange how he grew up just a couple blocks from where baseball now happens. There are places where he spent his childhood that stood where Orioles Park now stands.
After the game, we made the drive to D.C. I had to introduce Ed to Pi Pizzeria tonight. They started in St. Louis and specialize in deep dish pizza, though there thin crust is very good, too. It became famous when Obama had the Pi folks come out for the inauguration to make deep dish pizza. Reminder: Barack is from Chicago...the home of deep dish. Yet when it came time to order pizza for the biggest night of this life, he went with a St. Louis place. The original place on Delmar has been packed in St. Louis ever since and has expanded to a few restaurants in the St. Louis metro. Now, they have one that opened yesterday here in D.C. When it came time to order drinks, I asked if they had Bud Light on draft. "No. We only have American beer." What in the world is more American than Budweiser? I know they were bought out by InBev, but seriously...it's a Bud! I settled for a Schlafly Kolsch, which they said was the closest to a Bud Light. It is a St. Louis beer. I don't branch out much when it comes to beer because the taste usually doesn't excite me. This was okay, so now I have a "local" St. Louis beer I can now drink. I guess that makes it an American beer, too.
Niece #2 was born today. She misses me already. She'll be almost a month old before I actually see her, but I'm sure she'll make it a little bit without seeing "the greatest uncle in the whole world...Yep. Mom's not pregnant anymore" --Kiley
We'll do some stuff around D.C. tomorrow, and then it's off to see the Nats play tomorrow night. To NYC again on Saturday and then on to Cooperstown.
