Test Day

Today was a long day.  I managed to get done with the test a little after 2pm.  Went and got my car washed and came back to the hotel and slept.  Now, I can't get back to sleep.  I "practiced" packing my backpack as Yosemite is just a few days away.  I had every intention of working out everyday and carrying a loaded pack around to get ready, but that has not happened.  I worked out the first day...and that was it.  I'm sure that will backfire, but there's not a whole lot I can do now.  I leave out of here tomorrow night after the D-backs game and head back to Southern California.  Padres in San Diego on Saturday and the Giants in San Francisco on Monday.  Then it's a week in Yosemite.

I'm sure these people at the Hampton Inn in Phoenix are ready to get rid of me, especially the lady who is in charge of the breakfast.  I decided to make myself a waffle the last 2 days.  Yesterday, I filled the cup passed the fill line, and the batter went everywhere.  Today, she didn't have the oil out and I didn't even think of it, so the waffle stuck to the iron.  I'm going to give it another shot tomorrow...I'm hoping that I've got it down now.   I could not wait to get back to the hotel after the test.  Why?  Cookies!  Yesterday, "Dawn" made a whole bunch of chocolate chip cookies, and they were fresh!  I'm a sucker for cookies.  Aside from my nurse popping me full of Reese's miniatures, that was one of the reasons I had put on weight during residency.  I lost it, though I'm sure I'm starting to put some back on.  "Dawn" must have realized I had eaten most of them yesterday, so she didn't make any today.  A major disappointment.

The high in San Diego Saturday...69!  And, the low...65!  62 and 54 for San Francisco on Monday. Crazy!  El Portal, just outside of Yosemite, calls for low-90s and low-60s for the next several days.  I'll be at altitude some, so it should be nice.  No rain in the forecast for now.  I am hoping that I don't get altitude sickness...I'll be at 8600ft for one of my backpacking fiascos in Toulemne Meadows.  Half Dome sits at 8842ft.  El Portal sits at 3316 and I will spend my first night there.  The second night will be in Yosemite at the backpackers' campground at just over 4000ft.  So, hopefully those couple of nights will help a little bit with acclimation.

Hopefully, some All-Star pictures tomorrow morning, but I need to get back to watching "The Pacific" for now.
