Travel Day

Long driving day today, but a good drive.  I did the Pacific Coast Highway from just north of L.A. to San Francisco.  Nice drive...slow going with all the traffic but worth the trip.  You kind of get to San Francisco before you even know your getting into a metro area.  Once you get into town, you know you're in the city!  For a Sunday evening, traffic stunk.  There was all this construction around my hotel and it took me 20 minutes of driving around just to get to where the valet is--that was once I had passed the hotel the first time.  I almost became a victim of road rage...or at least an innocent bystander.  Some dude in an SUV was after some gal in a sedan.  I think she had cut him off, and he wasn't having any of it.  She made a U-turn and so he did the same.  She made another U-turn and sped off...so he did the same.  I was within about 20 feet of him and thought he was going to barrel into me.  He didn't.  I don't know how their little affair ended, and didn't care to find out.

I made the trek to Ruth's Chris for a steak.  I wanted to eat there once on this trip and this was the best day to do it.  To make up for the salad, steak, potatoes, and dessert, I walked the 1-1/2 miles each way.  The walk there was crazy.  ALL UPHILL.  You've seen pictures of the main street the cable cars run on with the huge hill.  I walked up to the top of that.  When I got there, I thought that I'd just take my left and cruise on down...but, nope!  It was uphill that way, too.  At least it was downhill coming home.  I'm right smack in the middle of downtown.  This hotel is pretty cool.  It's cheap for San Francisco but actually pretty nice.  The catch is shared baths...it's like a college dorm.  I have a nice bed, though, and even a sink in the room.  I read the reviews pretty thoroughly before picking this place and I'm glad I went with it.  It all looks new on the inside, not more than a year or two old.

I plan on getting plenty of sleep tonight, as the past couple nights have been too short.  The PETCO Park review will be up soon.

  1. We stayed at a place call the White Swan. Little boutique place like that. I could never live in that city. Everything is uphill. You missed a great U2 concert.
