Commentary

Well, this was a first.  On my way back from Cleveland to Williamsport, I stopped by the last service area on the Ohio Turnpike for gas and a Starbucks coffee.  The lady at the Starbucks asked for my ID.  I gave it to her.  "Alaska.  [Giggle]  Is it cold up there?"  I had a 4+ hour drive ahead of me and was not in a humorous mood.  Thus, I was not humored.  "Arkansas."  I've never been accused of being from Alaska.  Everyone from Arkansas knows that no one outside the state knows what our 2 letter abbreviation is.  Mostly commonly, AR is confused for Arizona.  Every time you order something on the phone.  "Oh, Conway, Arizona."  "No!  Arkansas."  Some will give us the AK abbreviation.  I posted the picture below on Facebook several months ago.

Yep.  That's NBC news.  Way to go.

I've never had someone look at my license and confuse it for Alaska.  For one, it spells out the great state of Arkansas.  "AR" does appear next to the city name.  But, how do you get Alaska out of "AR"?  I think I'm going to start a petition to change us from "The Natural State" to "We are 'AR'".  It won't go anywhere, but if I go at it hard enough it might just get me a segment on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Go Hogs!
